Rumi Night for Human Rights
16th December 2018, Essex Unitarian Church, London – In light of the 70th anniversary of the existance of the UN Human Rights Declaration the Soveida Ensemble performed a heart warming concert with mesmerising mystical rhythms and poetry from famous Persian poets such as Rumi and Saadi.
On of the poems translated at the concert appears on the entrance of the UN building in Geneva:
Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.
If one member is afflicted with pain,
Other members uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human being you cannot retain.
